1st cake For the San Diego Biz!

The first cake for the Biz has gone off without a hitch.... Who knew caterpillar cakes could be so much fun!!! My first 3 dimensional caterpillar cake was a big hit and a perfect addition to Miss Chloe Grace's first birthday. A lovely fall afternoon in the park....sigh....if only we could do that every day.

Feeling Spooky

Although Halloween is still 22 days away I am feeling the fever of spice cakes, pumpkins, ghouls and goblins. Not to mention the all out sugar fest of trick or treating.
I got my 2nd taste of fall testing out a apple spice bread recipe last night with my Dad. ALthough we did replace the regular all purpose flour for whole wheat it was just as delicious and (gasp) healthier.
THe photo I posted is of a Halloween gingerbread house Mendy and I made a few years ago in FL. Now you know that gingerbread houses aren't just for Christmas!

Caterpillars and Footballs

Burned Cake

It is always a major bummer when the timer goes off and you didn't get to the oven in time and the cake is burned. That is how I feel today-My last blog was almost a month ago and I haven't been hearing the timer to write another. (Big Sigh) I promise to be more attentive to my blog from this day forth!

The Filling

We have a lot to catch up on...I went to Pasadena around the 19th of Sept to visit fellow pastry chef Mendy Pound who opened her shop last February called Cakes by the Pound. I assisted Mendy for a few days leading up to the Bridal Salon at the Beverly Hills Hotel. It was a whirlwind trip but hugely successful. Not only did I get to catch up with an old friend I also got a real taste of the successes and challenges of owning your own bakery! Lots of info to mull over!

The Icing

Although I have been hitting the pavement in search of a new job to keep the bills paid while I embark on my new business I have been enjoying myself. A few friends and I piled into the car, bundled up their almost 1 year old daughter and set off for Julian.
The cool crisp air, leaves starting to turn and a warm slice of apple pie with cinnamon ice cream will recharge any ones batteries!

The Fun Stuff

This weekend I will be making a 3 dimensional Caterpillar cake for Miss Chloe Grace's 1st birthday as well as a football cake laying on top of a field in celebration of a joint birthday party. Pics to Follow. Let's keep those orders coming!!! YAHOO!

And so it begins

Formalities First

My name is Elizabeth Hancock and I am a chef. Well Pastry Chef that is. I am a Southern California native recently returning to my roots and venturing into uncharted territories. During the past 8 years I have traveled throughout the United States honing my culinary skills and now have settled back into my SoCal lifestyle ready to embark on my next adventure.......my very own cake business.

The Filling

Today I enter the world of 2008, having recently just purchased a blue tooth(new technology scares me) I have taken the advice of my very talented and smart sister Caroline and started the blog you are seeing here. During the blogs to follow I will share my love of cake, the beginnings of an exciting journey, inspirations, new flavors and just having a blast doing it!!!!!
